Welcome to the Home of a Real World Champion! Slash was a dark blue merle male who entered this world in my kitchen floor. Bred by Jamey Waters, Slash's litter was raised here at my kennel. At the time Slash was born, I had another litter of my own whelped and for several weeks both litters were kept in the same large area. When I would go to the kennel door, the puppies would jump around and yelp with the exception of Slash. He would sit quietly and stare at me directly in the eyes. He wasn't shy but quiet and confident. He was a stand out from day one and I commonly referred to him as "Slash the wonder pup." At 12 weeks of age he climbed over the top of 6 lambs packed in the corner of a stall to bring them out to me. Working, he exhibited a very strong fetch and was a talented heeler that went to the head when necessary. He was the primary chore dog of a 30 to sometimes 50 commercial cow herd. "Some would equate this to a RWCH (Real World Champion)", thus my slogan of Real World Champions. Slash was more at home with ranch work even though he was Most Promising Started in his first trial exposure at the age of 9 months. Slash completed his STDc at this trial under Roy Sage and Joey Judd. I trialed him limitedly after that and even though he worked in hyper-speed in a trialing arena most judges would comment on how quiet a worker he was. In 2003, I ventured back in to the trial arena and he got his STDs title. The first time and only time I trialed him on ducks he received a qualifying score. On September 8, 2006, we were sorting calves and Slash was rolled by a cow and received trauma to his head. He left this world the next day, cradled in my arms in the kitchen floor. There’s not a day goes by that I don’t think of him. He was my buddy of a lifetime. My Slash’n… Click on this link to read a special memory... RWCH - A Story

Slash working a heifer at 9 months.
This was one of my favorite pictures and typical of where he'd be found when I came home from work. 2003, Slash completed his STDs Below: The confidence to heel as Slash did is near impossible to teach a stockdog. It just has to come natural... |
